Why are you thankful to Hillary Clinton?

I’ve written about my reasons for being thankful to Hillary Clinton (thankyouhillary.com) but now I want to hear yours.

Why are you thankful to Hillary Clinton?

Obama picks Biden as VP on ticket

August 23, 2008 by gabemott

I just got an email from ONE.org, an organization dedicated to iradicating poverty, that Barack Obama has chosen Joseph Biden to be his running mate. So much for the text message I signed up with to get the news first.

From the email:

The news today is going to be all about Senator Joe Biden, Barack Obama’s choice for Vice President. You can make this political moment a poverty-fighting moment by talking to Joe Biden right now, before he gets swept-up in a blur of coast-to-coast campaigning and the crush of endless media attention

We knew it wouldn’t be Hillary Clinton. And the other potential running mates were white men. Not that it matters, except to naggingly remind us, that yes, the fact that Hillary was that close to the nomination was a big deal, but it was groundbreaking because she is a woman.

Maureen, you didn’t

August 21, 2008 by gabemott

Maureen Dowd goes off on Hillary in her NY Times opinion column placing her in cahoots with McCain to get the presidency in four years. What a sucker Hillary would be taken for if she is sold by that offer. But where does this imagination come from for Ms. Dowd?

…McCain laughs. “…Seriously, Hill, that Paris-Britney ad you came up with was brilliant” >>more

I can’t help but appreciate her ability to write so well so creatively so fast. For that alone, I read her column. Her audacity trumps my empathetic embarrassment I feel when she is harsh and inappropriately rude to people.

Happy Holidays

July 4, 2008 by gabemott

Well, my computer is on the fritz and needs to go into the shop, but with the fourth of July and everything, I may be offline for some time.

Anway, would love to hear your thoughts on Hillary these days. Does anyone think she would have made the same  moves towards the center that Obama has seemingly made recently?

My letter to my Tribe

June 18, 2008 by gabemott

don’t ever let anyone tell you that I don’t love talking shit.

oh I do.

In fact, one of the masters of talking shit on the planet, Gary Payton, spoke on Monday at the courthouse rally to Save the Sonics. They are being moved to Oklahoma and we can’t be having that. Anyway, back to shit talking.

While I get the shit talking that went down with the Hillary – Obama race. It’s time to pay proper respects.

Lot’s of people were done with that girl, saying she was going overboard. She referenced Robert Kennedy’s assasination when we are all terrified of the possibility of Barack firing up the racist elements of Amerikkka. Hillary played the race card, she played victim womenhood, she played the fearless leader with a white lie about going into Bosnia under fire., and she rolled with the Jerimiah scary black preacher thing.

And all the while, she maintained a fight that was mathematically impossible– unless the masses of super delegates changed their minds

Changed their minds? Huh?
Can they do that?

This entire democratic race for the president did keep one wondering how the rules worked. What in the world were Michigan and Florida thinking when they decided to cast away threats that their votes would go uncounted?

So we got super delegates who determined the race and we got two states that didn’t count. But we also have rules that were set up from the beginning.

The fact is, Barack pulled an unbelievable upset. One that the inevitable candidate could never quite recover from. Her campaign was set to battle a party bound to lose in November 2009.
Hillary’s biggest mistake was trusting the inner circle that she was inevitable.

I don’t blame her for the so called nasty politics that she played. I think she is right that we should be prepared for all the crap the Republican party is prone to heap through “unconnected” wings of the right.
Hillary busted her ass. She hustled and tried to make plays.
She really did shatter all kinds of conventional glass boxes. People might say it shouldn’t matter that she is a woman. But it does.

We yearn for simple stories, especially when they are true: It is now possible that a Woman and an American-American can be legitimate contenders for President.

Big ups to Hillary. I’m stoked she played hard all the way. I’m stoked we have had the most inspiring pool of Democratic candidates that I have ever felt such strong affinity with.

So, Thank you Hillary, Much Love and Respect, thanks for making herstory.

Check it out,
Gabe

I wish I could upload the video here, but I can’t, it’s not on youtube yet.

But this is pretty funny, some guy in his room with guitar and some hilarious anecdotes on Hillary’s run for the president.

Thank You Hillary in the blogosphere

June 11, 2008 by gabemott

There is a lot of gratitude going around right now. The fact that Hillary gave Barack Obama one tough run for his money, is pretty badass. She got 18 million personal endorsements (some call them votes), she won most of the debates against a crew of other men– always showing a detailed understanding of policies, and fought hard

And as a woman, she was doing what no other woman had done before. There are just a fraction of women in the US Legislature and Senate, no woman has ever been president, women couldn’t even vote 90 years ago.

An Op-Ed Piece from the New Your Times suggests: Nobody is ever again going to question whether it’s possible for a woman to go toe-to-toe with the toughest male candidate in a race for president of the United States.

Some would read “the reaction to her candidacy [as] a startling misogyny.

But thanks to Hillary, we have re-started a national conversation about what it means to be a woman in power, and about how we should talk about women in power. Thanks to Hillary, there are, indeed, cracks in that great glass ceiling of the White House. Thanks to Hillary, women are closer to a White House bid than they have ever been before. [visible vote 08]

Hillary truly made a difference just by showing kids that a woman can play ball with the big boys. Posted by Activistas the reality is brought down to earth by a story of family at the dinner table:

We do thank-yous every night before dinner at our house.  Sometimes trivial (yesterdays’ weather), sometimes momentous (food on the table).  Tonight, though it might sound odd, I will say thank you to Senator Clinton.  For showing my 5-YO son that a woman contender for the Presidency is normal…

Complete the great story on Activistas.

And another, as I said, lot’s of gratitude in the blogosphere for Hillary:

I voted for Hillary Clinton, because I felt she was the best candidate for the job. I LOVED voting for her because she is a woman. [Political Voices of Women]
